Woman's Jaw Broken after Punch outside Moranbah Hotel

TROY Cunningham punched a woman in the head and broke her jaw following an altercation outside the Black Nugget Hotel in Moranbah.

Cunningham, a 32-year-old miner, was given a fully suspended jail sentence yesterday because he was remorseful, was undergoing anger management and had heavy financial commitments and a wife and two children to support.

Cunningham pleaded guilty, in the District Court in Mackay, to causing grievous bodily harm to Jamie Rae Campbell last May 9.

There was a group of people outside the hotel in the early hours of the morning waiting for taxis, the court heard. There was a verbal altercation during which insults were thrown.

A CCTV recording of the incident showed Ms Campbell walking towards Cunningham and dropping her handbag; she took a can of alcohol out of his hand and threw it to the ground.

Cunningham punched her once, spinning her around.

She ran into the hotel to seek help from staff. …
