DISASTER seems to be one of the most common headlines on the front pages of our media.

Fires, floods, cyclones, oil spills, financial crisis, health issues, road fatalities - each one of these has an enormous impact on the Australian community.

However, no mention is made of the far more serious disaster that confronts Australians every moment - the breakdown of the family unit.

Australians find ecological mismanagement, like the oil spill in Moreton Bay, abhorrent but most of this is reversible by proper environmental management.

But the biggest disaster taking place in Australia is our divorce rate and the impact that it has on the children and the extended family.

It is known that divorces impact on the children of the family in their emotional and academic maturity. It also is one of highest reasons for poverty in Australia.

But it seems we just accept these relationships breaking down. There appears to be very little done to try to minimise this continuing disaster. …
