Devils Dash Rangers; Dodgers through to Grand Final after Defeating Rous

THERE were few surprises in Far North Coast Women's softball at the weekend, not least Dodgers Devils proceeding to the A grade grand final after defeating Rous Rangers 7-4.

That means the Devils will now meet Byron Bay in the season decider after the Whitesox's runaway 16-8 win over Casino in their semi-final clash.

Dodgers took control of the game from the first innings with great hits from Loris Gordon and Jo Rucker which gave them an early 2-nil lead.

Rous's Kathy Youngberry's pitching kept the Dodgers batters at bay in the second innings for no score and she later stepped up to the plate smacking a home run to put Rangers on the scoreboard.

Dodgers, however, didn't settle for this when Donna Salgram hit a top hit to right field followed by a enormous hit from Niki Clough who was tagged out at home plate from a brilliant relay from the Rangers fielders.

Rangers got back on the board when Jaimee Claydon stole home to even the score to three runs apiece.

But Dodgers topped this by adding another two to the scoreboard.

Then Sue Clark, replacing Youngberry on the mound, shut down the Dodgers batters for no score. But that good work was undone when at the top of the fourth, Rous couldn't get bat to ball.

Dodgers added one more run when, with two out, Hailey Leeson hit a double bagger to score Loris Gordon to take their score to 6-3.

The Dodgers' Kayleen Shailes seized on an error in the Rangers field which led to a safe hit that put Marion Stevens on base then scored when Niki Clough slammed the ball to the outfield.

Rous were again kept scoreless at the top of the sixth innings. The difference between the two sides was the Dodgers' batters hit the ball at crucial times to score.

Key players for Dodgers were Sonia Pope with some great pitching, Kayleen Shailes and Niki Clough. …
