THE Toowoomba Catholic primary school principal at the centre of an alleged cover-up of child sexual abuse has been suspended.

The Non-State Schools Accreditation Board and Catholic Education lawyers have started two inquiries into allegations the headmaster did not call police after a nine-year-old student told him a teacher had "touched" her in September, 2007. The Department of Child Safety has also reported the alleged cover-up to police.

The 59-year-old teacher was charged in November last year with 34 counts of indecent treatment of a child under 12 and 12 counts of rape of students at the primary school.

The Toowoomba principal was suspended on Monday on full pay.

Catholic Education director John Borserio had said last Thursday that the headmaster was taking "a short period of leave" and stressed then that he was not forced to step down.

About 100 parents attended the school's Parents and Friends Association annual meeting on Tuesday night. …
