KARRIE Webb knows it is a fine line between success and failure.

The trouble is she's on the wrong side of it.

The good news for the golf star is only one or two shots separates her best from her very best.

The bad news is that she's unsure how to cross the border which separates the two.

Webb lines up in the Women's Australian Open at Metropolitan today aiming for three national titles in succession and an early boost ahead of her 14th season on the US LPGA Tour.

With Australia's best young players snapping at her heels led by Katherine Hull, Webb is not yet ready to concede her mantle as Australia's outstanding female player.

But for the first time in a very long time she will not start as favourite on home soil.
