THE AREA has a 71-year-old pensioner who fills a long day helping people - no job is too big or too much.

He is strong and fit and thank heavens he is because he takes on very big tasks.

We have only known him a very short time, but in that time we could place 55 to 65 names and telephone numbers of folks he has helped. His only payment is a kind smile and sometimes a cuppa before he is on his way again, never even asking for money to pay for the diesel in his old truck.

Over Christmas he lost his wallet with everything he owned. He had been saving up for his grandchildren. He lost all the money, his licence card, the lot.

Now I have heard from someone he helps that on February 4 he was helping a friend who had been on the sick list, and while helping out at the Lismore cattle yards he lost the canvas cover from his old truck. …
