Stan Puts a Little Bit of Home into Packages; RSL President Wants Aussie Soldiers to Know They Are Not Forgotten

STAN Keller knows what it is like being far from home and fighting a war.

The president of the Yeppoon RSL said he was serving in Vietnam in the Christmas of 1969 when wharfies went on strike and goods weren't getting delivered from Australia.

"I can remember being over there and not having the nice little things from home," Stan said.

With this in mind he set about a plan to send care packages to Aussie soldiers serving in Afghanistan.

"I want to let them know they are not forgotten by the people back home."

Stan, with the support of the Yeppoon RSL and the Vietnam Veterans, has gathered a range of items, including sweets, chips, biscuits, tins of tuna, reading matter, board games and packs of cards.

Coles Supermarket also kindly donated food vouchers to contribute towards the purchase of the items, and local cadets have each made donations of tins of tuna.

He has put together 20 care packages. …
