Harrison Maps out Plan to Support Fire Victims

HARRSION Comelli proved the power of an idea can be turned into a reality and, $2067 later, he is a happy kid.

The 10-year-old West Mackay State School student wanted to raise money for the victims of the Victorian bushfires after hearing his grandmother's stories and watching television coverage.

Harrsion said he went and saw his principal to ask her if they could raise money for the bushfire victims.

The school's Student Council decided to hold a free dress day and each student placed their gold coin donation on a map of Victoria in the school office.

Year 7 teacher Wendy Baynton said it has been amazing to watch the children come down to the office with their donations and place them on the map.

"We are over the moon, we have raised $2067," Ms Baynton said. "The kids have really gotten behind it. Some have even donated their own pocket money and seeing all the money on the map was really visual for them," she said. …
