Concerns Raised over Power Plan
QUALIFIED urban and regional planner Doug Smith says a press release issued by Mulgowie Road Power Pty Ltd did not adequately address residents' concerns.
Mr Smith, a former Laidley Shire Council planning officer, dealt with the gas-fired power station proposal when it first came before Laidley Shire Council in 2007.
Now retired and living in Mulgowie, Mr Smith is concerned about the project's effect on the environment, water catchment and tourism.
An example Mr Smith gave was the release stating: "The team has held discussions with more than 85 property owners for the project and are continuing transparent and meaningful discussions with potentially impacted property owners over the coming months", without going into what the impacts would be.
The original application to build a power station at Ham Hill on Mulgowie Road was lodged with the now amalgamated Laidley Shire Council and assessed pursuant to the provisions of the Laidley planning scheme.
"It would appear that some aspects of the application to construct and operate a power station on the subject land are not compatible with that planning scheme," he said. …
