Caricature Captures All Things Phil Is Known For

IT is the cartoon many people in Murwillumbah will immediately recognise.

Well-known town businessman, charity worker, Banana Festival stalwart and can collector Phil Taylor has been immortalised by a cartoonist's pen.

The caricature was a gift from a talented local artist, UK-born Russell Broad, who recently married his Murwillumbah-bred sweetheart Renay Cochrane.

The couple had what Mr Broad describes as "a lovely ceremony at Plantation House in Duranbah" made all the more special because Mr Taylor, a car dealer and vintage and veteran vehicle enthusiast loaned then his MG as a wedding car.

"He was kind enough to let us borrow his MG as a wedding car for the day, and as a thank-you, I drew a caricature of him," said Mr Broad.

Mr Taylor said he was amazed when Mr Broad presented him with the drawing in appreciation for use of his MG.

"He had my car as a wedding car and I didn't want anything for it," Mr Taylor said.

"But then he did that caricature. …
