Labor Slams the Contempt of LNP

THE Liberal National Party's (LNP) refusal to nominate a candidate in Gladstone to date shows its utter contempt for the city, according to the Australian Labor Party (ALP) candidate for Gladstone Peter O'Sullivan.

Mr O'Sullivan said while he started his campaign last year and Premier Anna Bligh had regularly visited the city, the LNP and Lawrence Springborg had shown little interest in Gladstone.

"Lawrence Springborg says the global financial crisis is 'peripheral' to Queensland. The fact is the global financial crisis is having an enormous impact on Queensland and on Gladstone," Mr O'Sullivan said.

"Mr Springborg does not have a clue or a plan and as yet he does not have a candidate in Gladstone."

"With that level of contempt for the people of Gladstone in Opposition, imagine the devastating impact a risky independent-backed Springborg Government would have on our region."

However, Mr O'Sullivan said the ALP had a comprehensive plan to protect jobs and guide Queensland through the fall-out of the global financial crisis. …
