Beach Hit Puts Stars to the Test

REIGNING two-time world surfing champion Steph Gilmore and seven-time ASP winner Layne Beachley are usually right at home on the beach, but it was a whole different ball game for them on Saturday.

The surfing stars battled it out with some of Australia's best cricketers, including Matthew Hayden and Ellyse Perry, during a game of beach cricket at Snapper Rocks.

With the help of Beachley's Aim for the Stars Foundation, the social game celebrated up-and-coming Australian female sports stars and aimed to inspire girls and women across the country to dream and achieve.

The event coincided with the start of the Roxy Pro, at the same beach, and highlighted the ICC Women's World Cup, which kicks off next weekend.

Representing the Southern Stars were Matthew Hayden, Ellyse Perry, Alex Blackwell, and Delissa Kimmince. Playing for the ASP Women's World Tour were Sarah Andrews, Layne Beachley, Steph Gilmore, Jessi Miley-Dyer, Sally Fitzgibbons and Sam Cornish. …
