THE $45 million sale of Ipswich City Square was signed off on with just hours to spare before yesterday's deadline, ensuring the CBD redevelopment would go ahead.

Opposition leader Lawrence Springborg said he was happy to agree to the big news project for Ipswich after it emerged last week the LNP needed to sign off on the project as well as the State Government.

"I offer the city, its business community and ratepayers my very best wishes for the future of this venture," Mr Springborg said in his letter to Premier Anna Bligh.

"In proceeding with this venture, the city of Ipswich is taking a big step."

After last week's signing hiccup, Ipswich Mayor Paul Pisasale said yesterday's news was wonderful.

"I really appreciate Lawrence Springborg's support on this, it's just great to have that bipartisan support," Cr Pisasale said.

"Actually it's probably better it's turned out this way where we have it signed off by both parties, because now it goes ahead no matter what. …
