All Eyes Cast on Hamish's Intense Path

IT'S the third of our season and its potential is being watched closely.

It's already deepened to a category three and the four day forecast chart puts in very close to the harbour city.

Yesterday forecasters had Tropical Cyclone Hamish moving parallel to the North Queensland coast with the prediction of big seas, high winds and heavy rainfall for the already rain-soaked region north of Mackay.

Rain should begin to fall late Saturday in the Gladstone region becoming widespread by Sunday.

And while the forecast yesterday was for Hamish to avoid landfall, emergency services were warning residents to be prepared.

Residents need to check the surrounds of their property for loose items and secure them, prepare their emergency kits including torches spare batteries and a portable radio.

Should the cyclone look like crossing the coast near Gladstone other precautions such as taping the windows, putting vehicles under cover or tying them down, preparing supplies of fresh water and emergency food rations and identifying the strongest room in the house should be put in place. …
