Neighbours' Shock at Shed's Approval; Vow to Take It Up with Crime and Misconduct Commission

A CONTROVERSIAL shed at Schoch Road has been approved by the Southern Downs Regional Council (SDRC) planning and environment committee, much to the dismay of neighbours Jill and Russell Neucom.

The SDRC councillors stewed over the shed for some time at the meeting yesterday before finally concluding to approve it.

The councillors changed just one of the report's 39 conditions associated with the approval.

Cr Ross Bartley moved the resolution to approve the conditions and managed to persuade all of his colleagues - bar Mayor Ron Bellingham, who raised his hand against the outcome proposed by the officers - to reduce the bond to $5000.

Cr Bartley said a $10,000 bond to be imposed on the applicant to ensure landscaping and other works were carried out was "excessive".

Deputy mayor Peter Blundell pointed out one of the main issues of concern for council was the potential for the operation on the site to expand down the track. …
