Allora Players Lunch Together 50 Years Later

THE players of the 1958 Allora Rugby League Club winning St George Cup team attended an anniversary luncheon at Allora on Saturday.

At a meeting prior to the luncheon, Dell Teys was appointed captain and guest of honour for the official proceedings and presentations.

The late Ron Teys, husband of Dell, had been captain/coach of the team.

Prior to the luncheon Jim Brosnan, as the senior player, on behalf of all present, presented her a bouquet of flowers.

Players present were Jim Brosnan, Maurice Cooper, Peter Fogarty, Dick Mahoney, Johnny O'Connor, Mick Hughes, Phil Hughes, Max Phelan and Brian Phelan.

Apologies were received from Leo Cantwell, Gerry Morrisey and mascot Laurie Ward. Members of the families of the late Merv Young and Bernie Neilsen were also present.

Dell made a presentation of a memento to each of the players. On one side of the memento was the photo of the team and officials prior to running onto the field and on the other side a game report from the Warwick Daily News. …
