No Hiding for Hoons; Warwick Police Crack Down on Idiots Screeching through Town

IT was a very costly roar of an engine down Locke Street on Sunday for the driver of a faded blue V8 Holden Commodore, when Warwick Police impounded the vehicle for 48 hours.

This was the first car to be taken off the road this year but the constabulary has placed Warwick hoons on notice.

"Hoon and lose your car," Senior Sergeant Mike Curtin warned yesterday.

"If there is even one hoon on the road, it is a problem because this kind of behaviour has the potential to take a life."

Old Stanthorpe and Washpool roads are hot spots for burn-outs and wheelies, with obvious marks often leaving a trail behind the offenders, Snr Sgt Curtin said.

Sergeant Wayne Smith said hooning was a "fairly prevalent" offence in the Rose City.

During the past three months there have been several cases of hooning reported and 19 people have been charged with the dangerous operation of a vehicle in the last financial year. …
