Lilian Recognised for Her Brilliant Year in School/club Orienteering

YEAR 11 student Lilian Burrill is one of three Warwick State High School students preparing for major sporting trips in the next two months.

Burrill won gold, silver and bronze medals in the state championships in orienteering and then backed up to win one gold and two silver medals in the nationals in Maryborough.

She won a silver medal in the Australian Middle Distance and Relay Championships.

Burrill will travel to New Zealand with the Australian Schools team in January.

Year 12 student Samuel Warrener and his second cousin Tegan Warrener, who is in Year 10, have qualified for the Pan Pacific Games in Canberra on November 29-December 7.

Samuel inadvertently was given a higher weight hammer in his event at the Queensland Secondary School Track and Field Championships.

Despite the heavier hammer, he threw 41.60 metres which was a national qualifying distance to make the team for Canberra.

Matthew Carey performed well with a personal best of 54. …
