Defender Ready for Next Step; Toowoomba Talent Prepares for Australian Debut

TOOWOOMBA soccer product Daniel Bowles is one step closer to realising a boyhood dream.

After a hectic 18 months which has included stints with the Queensland Academy of Sport, Australian Institute of Sport and the Queensland Roar youth team, Bowles will line-up for the Australian under-18 squad at next month's Australian Youth Olympic Festival.

The young defender hopes his latest selection will help him edge closer to his ultimate goal of becoming a Socceroo.

"Wearing the green and gold is an absolute honour and a privilege. I'm so excited I've been selected," Bowles said.

"I've always dreamt of playing for my country.

"Of course my ultimate dream is to be a Socceroo and while that goal is a long way off right now, I still think it is important to set yourself goals."

Bowles will face Chile, China and the United States in a round-robin tournament as part of a squad lead by former Socceroos Graham Arnold and Paul Okon. …
