Met-Easts Nail Down Top Spot with Win; Trojans Secure Lead with Victory over Diggers

METROPOLITAN-EASTS cemented their place at the top of the Toowoomba Cricket ladder with a first innings win over Northern Brothers Diggers on Saturday.

The Trojans were in a tight run chase, needing to beat Diggers' 119 for victory.

They looked to be on the ropes at 5-70 but a partnership between Paul Barton (32) and Ryan Brown (23) enabled Mets to compile 132 runs in 77 overs.

Diggers were 3-36 at stumps.

Diggers' best with the ball was Chris Curtis (6-44) and Brad Suhr (3-33), while Mets all-rounder Troy Gurski claimed 3-10.

"It was a really tough game," Gurski said.

"Things looked really bad for us when we were five-for but Paul Barton and Ryan Brown put in a good partnership and saved us.

"It was a very good win. It has been a good first half of the season.

"It's a good feeling going into the Christmas break in the lead, especially because the competition is so close. …
