Torture Charges Dropped; Allegation against Couple Withdrawn

TOOWOOMBA couple Alexander Ross Christensen and Donna May Holder had torture charges against them withdrawn in the city's Magistrates Court yesterday.

Christensen, 35, and Holder, 36, had been charged with torture arising from an allegation that they had poured hot water over the back of a man in his Toowoomba home and held a knife to his throat.

However, at the start of their committal hearing yesterday, prosecutor Sergeant Tony Costa told the court the 42-year-old complainant had withdrawn the accusations regarding the hot water and knife and so police would drop the torture charges.

The pair would still face one charge each of assault occasioning bodily harm while in company arising from the incident at the complainant's Mort Street home on the night of July 24, he said.

Christensen's barrister Frank Martin said his client accepted that he had struck the complainant in the face and caused him bodily harm while Holder was present and so would plead guilty to the charge. …
