Quick's Five Wicket Haul among Best for Season; Young Paceman Savours Demolition of Met-Easts

TAKING five wickets against Metropolitan Easts last week will go down as one of Wests bowler Chris Byrnes' top cricketing memories.

The 20-year-old paceman claimed 5-28 in his side's exhilarating win over the Trojans, a result that may prove to be the most significant of the summer.

It was no surprise to see Byrnes lead Wests' wicket tally as they toppled perennial finalists Mets.

The talented young bowler has been earmarked for bigger things since bursting into A Grade and had already made his representative debut with the Toowoomba Cavaliers prior to the weekend's haul.

"The win was great. It was only first innings but knocking Mets over made it a bit sweeter," Byrnes said.

"I was pretty happy with my figures. I have an elbow injury at the moment so I can't throw. I'm just happy to be able to concentrate on my bowling."

Byrnes admits nerves got the better of him in his Cavaliers' debut against South East Queensland a fortnight ago, but felt he had made a step toward proving himself with his five wickets against the Trojans. …
