DERWENTSIDE'S world record-holder Jo Jackson turned Commonwealth record-breaker last night as she booked her place in two more events at the world championships in Rome in July.

Olympic bronze medallist Jackson added the 200m freestyle to the 400m she won in world record time on Monday at the British Gas Swimming Championships in Sheffield.

Her winning time of 1:56.47 broke not only her own British record but took 0.13sec off the Commonwealth mark, held jointly by Stephanie Rice and Bronte Barratt of Australia.

She was two seconds short of the world record, held by Federica Pelligrini of Italy, whose 400m mark she toppled on Monday.

Jackson, 22, (pictured right) said: "I'd like to have gone quicker but a Commonwealth record is great.

"There's a lot I can improve on and hopefully I can do better in Rome."

Commonwealth champion Caitlin McClatchey, Jackson's new training partner at Loughborough University, took the silver medal after Olympic double champion Rebecca Adlington withdrew to focus on other events. …
