It was Kevin Rudd, and he uttered those words as part of his maiden speech to parliament on November 11, 1998 - almost exactly 10 years ago.

Perhaps he had places like Nambour and the Tram Track Cafe in mind as he spoke, particularly as he worked there for a time back in 1975.

And as for the free cuppa, current managers Barb and Corelle Webster would be happy to oblige the PM with the gesture when he's next in town.

The owner of the building, Greg Pitman, put a plaque on the front wall alerting people to the K-Rudd link about eight months ago, not long after he was elected to office.

Funnily enough, the cafe is located on Howard Street, and Mr Rudd famously beat John Howard at the federal election last year. …
