IT is a privilege usually reserved for the Joel Parkinsons and Kelly Slaters of the world - wearing board shorts to work.

But across the Coast yesterday, boardies weren't only acceptable office attire, they were encouraged.

Yesterday was Boardies Day, a surf lifesaving initiative aimed at raising awareness - and some much-needed funds - for surf lifesaving programs.

Kawana Waters Surf Life Saving Club's Summer Surf Girl entrant Corinna Smith did the rounds of Kawana businesses, turning the odd snag and filling her bucket with gold coin donations.

On the donation front, Budget Direct Insurance in the Kawana Business Village proved a lucrative destination, with dozens of staff members dressing down and paying up.

Corinna said the day was about education as much as fundraising.

She spent the morning visiting schools and childcare centres to reinforce the surf and sun safety message, before hunting down donations. …
