THEY'VE made a list and checked it twice, and now Nambour General Hospital's palliative care staff are ready to lift the spirits of one Sunshine Coast family.

The medical, nursing, allied health and administrative staff have joined forces to help out a family this Christmas through the Sunshine Coast Daily's Adopt A Family campaign.

Nurse unit manager Fran Brewster said it was the second year the close-knit team had adopted a family, to put something back into the community.

"We see so many distressed families in palliative care, not just because they and their loved ones are facing a terminal illness, but they are also experiencing financial difficulties because of expensive drugs and loss of income," Ms Brewster said.

"We see first-hand how they go without and there are so many families in our community who, through no fault of their own, are facing hard times."

That sentiment has been echoed across the Coast, with individuals and staff from companies and organisations digging deep to adopt 386 families so far. …
