Town Rails about Plan; but Committee Believes Government's Not All Talk

A TOWN fighting to retain its character in the face of the Landsborough-to-Nambour rail upgrade has won a seat at the table of what it describes as genuine consultation with the state government.

Mooloolah Valley Community Association has now held three meetings with department of transport officials as part of the rail study, the latest of which took place in the town on Friday.

Paul Wilson, a consulting engineer to the Save Mooloolah committee set up to produce an 87-page submission for the town, said the government was listening.

Dr Wilson said the town's representatives were continuing to put the case that a level crossing was better than an overpass that would divide the town.

It was also arguing that the four-lane track corridor was excessive, projected train speeds were too high and the need for the environmental impact of river crossings needed to be carefully considered.

He said desire to retain the historical feel and village atmosphere were also critical. …
