Trouble in Knife-Edge Existence; Man Cops Bond after Breaching Drugs and Alcohol Bail Conditions

AFTER being caught by police with a collection of knives while camping in parklands at Casino in April this year, Jason Philip Hayes found himself facing charges on three weapon offences.

He was released on conditional bail that included he not consume drugs or alcohol.

Two months later, Hayes, 20, of Goonellabah, risked his freedom by breaching those bail conditions when caught by police carrying bags of cannabis at a hotel in Lismore.

In the Lismore Local Court last week, Magistrate Nick Reimer sentenced Hayes to a 12-month good behaviour bond.

Defence solicitor James Fuggle told the court Hayes and his partner of eight months had moved in with her mother at Maroochydore in Queensland at the beginning of the year.

An argument between his partner and her mother ended the arrangement. Hayes, his partner and her three young children moved to Casino to be near his father, and they were camping near Queen Elizabeth II Park when police found them. …
