JANINE BRUYN, of Lismore, is doing a great job under difficult circumstances.

But Ms Bruyn's life just got a little bit harder when the DVD player she used to keep her disabled daughter entertained on their long trips to Brisbane was stolen from her car in Diadem Street last weekend.

Ms Bruyn is a single mum with two little girls, Natasha, 5, and Nadia, 3.

Nadia was born with Down's syndrome and some serious complications, but Ms Bruyn tries to focus on the positive side of her daughter's disability.

"I call it up-syndrome, because I have never met a person with Down's syndrome who is down. They are always smiling," she said.

Nadia also has a rare condition which causes internal bleeding in her stomach and requires her to undergo a procedure under general anaesthetic every six weeks at the Royal Children's Hospital, Brisbane.

Ms Bruyn said the theft was a real blow.

"I usually lock my car," she said. …
