Harvey Norman Powers Ahead with Ballina Expansion

THE economic downturn has not stopped electrical goods giant Harvey Norman from looking to invest in Ballina, with plans under way for a new showroom in the town.

A billboard erected beside the Pacific Highway at West Ballina to advertise the development has some locals excited, with the project expected to provide additional options for shoppers and attract more people into the town.

The project, which would be developed in the Southern Cross Industrial Estate, has not yet gone out to tender.

Ballina Chamber of Commerce spokesperson Bryan Marriott said the establishment of a Harvey Norman store at Ballina would be a huge boost of confidence to the business community and residents in the shire.

"It is also great to see someone with Gerry Harvey's experience and expertise make the decision to open a Harvey Norman store in Ballina in this economic climate," Mr Marriott said.

"There would be some initial affect on the takings of similar businesses already established here. …
