Koalas Welcome Back; NRRRL Opens the Way for South Tweed's Possible Return

THE Northern Rivers Regional Rugby League (NRRRL) has held out the olive branch to the South Tweed Koalas and offered them the chance to re-join the competition in 2010.

At a club sign-on day on Sunday, South Tweed players elected to play in the Gold Coast Rugby League (GCRL) competition next year, effectively ending a bitter tug-of-war between the two leagues.

While NRRRL president Robin Harley has given South Tweed his blessing to cross the border next season, he wants them back here in 2010 and he is hoping that both Bilambil and Tweed Heads Seagulls will join them in a revised two-conference draw.

"It is important for everyone to know that we put that offer to them (South Tweed), to play in the Gold Coast Rugby League in 2009, but we also gave them the message that we'd like to include South Tweed, Bilambil and Tweed Heads Seagulls in our competition in 2010," Harley said.

"They certainly seemed interested in that concept and under those guidelines none of them would have to travel any further than Ballina. …
