Kyogle Mourns Death of New Bloke in Town; Baker Dies in Hospital after Ute Hits Tree, Bursts into Flames

ON A quiet stretch of Afterlee Road, 3kms west of Kyogle, Martin Navybox lost control of his silver Holden Commodore utility about 6.45pm on Wednesday.

After taking a slight bend his car crossed the road, hit a tree and flipped on to its roof. The impact was so great shards of the vehicle's windscreen lodged in the tree's trunk.

The 25-year-old died in a Gold Coast hospital yesterday morning.

At the time of the accident, Mr Navybox was on his way from his home at Eden Creek to attend Kyogle's street Christmas party.

Moments after the crash, passengers in a passing car stopped and dragged the unconscious Mr Navybox from his car before it burst into flames.

A passing nurse and, soon after, Kyogle GP Michael Glover also stopped to assist Mr Navybox. The accident happened outside a farm owned by another Kyogle GP, Dr Brian Perry, who also stopped to help.

Dr Perry's son, David, said two ambulances, two fire trucks, two SES vehicles and the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter attended, and up to 12 vehicles stopped to offer assistance. …
