ERIC KAISER'S letter, titled 'Wrong Information' ( NS 18/12), in which he criticises the director of planning at Kyogle Council, John Hession, is a disgusting and pathetic personal attack on Mr Hession's character and ethics.

As the consultant planner engaged by the landowners to prepare the rezoning application to which the letter refers to, I have been required to consult with Mr Hession and other council staff on numerous occasions during the course of the assessment and application process.

At all times, Mr Hession has been totally professional and unbiased in his dealings with the landowners and myself.

He has required a variety of technical assessments and reports to address various aspects of the proposal, and has had these reports assessed by the technical staff within council.

Mr Hession has reported all the facts to council and it is the elected council which will ultimately decide whether to support the proposal.

Mr Kaiser is well aware of the facts relating to the advice given to The Northern Star (prior to the formal closure of the exhibition period) on the number of submissions received, as he raised the matter at the council meeting on December 15 and was given the appropriate response from Mr Hession (now a matter of public record). Yet Mr Kaiser has chosen to further attack Mr Hession through The Northern Star.

The difference between the division of letters of support and against the proposal is due to the fact that of the 305 form letters completed by residents and submitted by the landowners, 10 were in opposition to the proposal and eight were undecided (neither in support or opposition).

Mr Hession's initial thought was that all of these letters were in support, and I am sure that the instances of applicants submitting unfavourable public submissions to the council must be somewhat limited. …
