Magistrate Rules 'No Winner' in Pub Stoush

A SILKSTONE man told an Ipswich magistrate yesterday he thought he had won a fight because he was the last man standing.

Mitchell Jacob Needham, 19, appeared in court charged with committing a public nuisance offence during the early hours of Saturday, October 11.

Prosecutor Senior Constable Rose Kane told the court Needham got into an argument with another patron at the Hotel Metropole on Brisbane Street in Ipswich about midnight.

Moments later, Needham and the male person, who he was arguing with inside the hotel, moved their stoush outside on to the footpath in Brisbane Street where a fight ensued, the court was told.

Several people were in the area at the time and saw the incident about 12.20am.

The court was told both parties began throwing punches at each other before security guards at the hotel intervened and police were called to the venue.

Needham, who appeared unrepresented, pleaded guilty to the charge.

Magistrate Haydn Stjernqvist asked Needham if he was the one left standing after the fight was broken up or if he was the one on the ground. …
