Vital Victory Keeps Laidley's One-Day Finals Hopes Alive

DEFENDING champions Laidley are still hoping to scrape into next year's one-day competition final after a much-needed victory over Eastern Raiders on Saturday.

In the first division match at Bichel Oval, Laidley returned to the top of the premiership table by beating the out-of-sorts Raiders.

However, Laidley captain Chris Wilson has set his team a new year challenge, being in fifth spot (18 points) in the separate one-day competition.

"The short-term goal now for us is the one-day comp," Wilson said.

"With two wins and two losses, we want to hopefully get a few more wins together and try to make the one-day final."

Marburg is top of the one-day competition with 26 points, from Centrals (25), Colleges (24) and Northsiders (19).

The one-day final is scheduled for the Australia Day long weekend at a venue to be decided.

However, in the hunt for the extended competition final, Laidley returned to top spot after Mick Sippel smashed 118 on Saturday. …
