CVC to Develop Ageing Strategy

THE Clarence Valley is to develop its own ageing strategy to help prepare for the predicted population explosion in people aged over 65.

Clarence Valley Council deputy general manager (economic), Des Schroder, said although council did not have an ageing strategy, it was 'on the strategic planning horizon'.

Mr Schroder said council was responding to official data predicting huge increases in the Valley's population, particularly in the over 65 age group.

The NSW Department of Planning this week released information showing the Clarence Valley's population would increase by about 30 per cent in the next 30 years. But while the 0-18 and 18-64 age brackets will increase statewide by about 20 per cent, over 65s will increase by a staggering 111 per cent.

Mr Schroder said council actively targeted business migrants between the ages of 30 and 45 'to ensure the Valley retains a balance' of sea and tree changers. …
