Downpour Has Bremer on the Rise

FLOODING creeks amused residents for the second time this summer.

Yesterday Ron and Ricki Stolle of Goodna rushed to Bundamba Creek, beside the Ipswich Knights Soccer Club, taking photographs of the swollen waterway.

"I woke about 2am to the clapping thunder," Mr Stolle said.

"The storm went until 4am, I couldn't believe it."

Ipswich State Emergency Service area controller Arie van den Ende said he was woken at 2.30am yesterday with a call for help.

He said the worst flooded areas were Ipswich, Thagoona, Pine Mountain, Redbank, Redbank Plains, Silkstone, Raceview, Eastern Heights and Walloon.

"It was mainly to help with flooding in homes," Mr van den Ende said.

"A lot of roofs leaked - probably due to a lack of maintenance and not being fixed up from the last storm."

He said it didn't take much rain to get the Bremer River and creek levels up because of last month's storms.

"Everything is just saturated, so it doesn't take much for it to rise up again."

In total the Ipswich SES received about 20 calls for assistance. …
