Seize Chance to Score Bargain at Car Auction

IPSWICH residents have the chance to snap up a bargain next Tuesday when 21 vehicles including trail bikes, mini bikes and cars go under the auction hammer.

Ipswich Inspector Kevin Keillor said vehicles featured at the no reserve auction were part of the government's vehicle impoundment project, which was aimed at seizing the vehicles of repeat offenders.

The offences can include driving unregistered and uninsured vehicles, unlicensed or disqualified driving, drink driving, failing to supply breath tests or driving while under 24-hour suspensions and driving illegally modified vehicles.

Ipswich District Crime Prevention Unit officer in charge Sergeant Nadine Webster said the legislation enabling police to impound and seize vehicles was proactive.

"Without the motor vehicle it makes it difficult for the driver to commit further driving offences," Sgt Webster said.

"The more times a driver offends, the longer their vehicle may be impounded and in some cases forfeited. …
