FISHTALES - A Pocket History of Tin Can Bay is the title of the book Shirley Wilson has just spent the past two years writing, while also mastering her computer, deciphering her own handwritten notes and locating the photographs that people had kindly loaned her!

On Thursday, her book was launched at Tin Can Bay where guest speaker, former Gympie City councillor Julia Lawrence, paid tribute to the Bay author.

It was through the late, well-known local identity, Nola Bale, that Julia met Shirley.

"FishTales encourages others to write their histories of Tin Can Bay on paper," Julia said.

"We have nothing to tell future generations otherwise.

"Our children need to be told about their history - congratulations, Shirley, you've done a wonderful job!"

Shirley's main thoughts were of thanking those who helped make this a successful book launch, including Citifarm for preparing the library gardens "so prettily". …
