QUEENSLAND Governor Penelope Wensley will make an official visit to Gympie on Saturday, November 22 as a prelude to the Centenary of Scouting in the Gympie region beginning in 2009.

Gympie Regional Centennial Scouting Hall of Memories project chairman Brett Green said the Governor would make a re-presentation of a replica of the original King's Colours or Royal Banner that was awarded to the Scouts of Gympie in 1911 and by Royal Decree made them the King's personal Scout Troop or "King's Troop" in Australia.

The replication project was sponsored by residents to mark their contribution towards the Centenary of Gympie Scouting that officially started in 1909.

After the official ceremonies, the Royal Banner replica will be placed on display in the Scout Museum at the Gympie Gold Mining and Historical Museum.

The original Royal Standard that no longer exists was presented in Brisbane by Lord Baden Powell in 1912 on behalf of King George V. …
