GYMPIE region businesses and individuals have been urged to throw their support behind this year's international effort by Gympie Cooloola Rotary.

The club is after bras, and lots of them, to send overseas to the women of third world nations who often go through life without the support most Australian women take for granted.

Since 2005, Uplift, through Rotary Australia World Community Service, has sent bras where requested through secure channels, making sure they get to the women who need them without compromising their dignity.

Now women throughout the Gympie region are being asked to put their second hand bras to good use by depositing them at one of the collection points created in the district.

Gympie co-ordinator Brendan Cuddihy said this week bras - and they are particularly after sports bras, nursing bras and bras size 18 plus - could be placed in collection boxes at Smith and Sons, the offices of Cuddihy and Joyce, the Mary Street offices of Gympie Regional Council, as well as its depot and administration offices, Laminex, Carter Holt Harvey, Ladybird, Cooinda and Shoenique. …
