GRAFFITI vandals spray painted their way through Gympie State High School and Gympie Special School on Cootharaba Road on Tuesday night, tagging buildings, footpaths, signs and even cars in pink and black paint.

Yesterday morning Gympie Special School principal Barry Tarlinton called police to report damage after finding a government car with pink spray paint across its bonnet.

He said the car was used by therapists and teachers to visit students in other schools throughout the region as the Gympie Special School is a base for the specialist teachers.

"We have been fairly lucky with vandalism so far.

"It's disappointing that equipment and resources at the school have to be redirected because of this.

"It is taking stuff away from the kids," he said.

Mr Tarlinton said there is a great group of people from the community that look out for the school's best interests and usually safeguards the school from becoming a target for this sort of crime. …
