A father of three sent to prison for causing the death of his best friend in 2000 has relived his regrettable past in the Maryborough District Court.

Glenn Wayne Power pleaded guilty to a new charge of dangerous driving while under the influence of alcohol.

He was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment with parole in four months.

Power, 35, wiped tears from his eyes as the prosecutor read out to the court the details of the offences that first sent him to prison eight years ago.

He was driving dangerously through Hervey Bay when the car collided with a truck instantly killing his friend, the only passenger.

The court heard his most recent offence, dangerous driving while under the influence of alcohol, happened this year on March 11.

At 8.30pm a man and his two children were travelling along Alice Street when Power ran a Give Way sign and hit the tail end of the other car.

The impact of the collision sent the family's car spinning out of control until it came to a stop on the other side of the road. …
