A 36-year-old man was last night flown to Brisbane with life-threatening injuries after a skydiving accident in Hervey Bay yesterday.

The experienced skydiver hit sand dunes near the intersection of the Esplanade and Moolyyir Street in Urangan about 3.40pm.

Urangan boys Jayden Bashford, 10, and Tim Asquith, 12, saw the drama unfold as they were walking down to the beach.

"We saw him come down through the trees," Jayden said.

"We ran down through the track and he'd just hit the beach.

"We walked up to him and his face and leg were bleeding and he was just laying there - he was knocked out."

Andrew McMurray and Neil Dearne were walking their dogs when they saw paramedics treating the man, who was unconscious and had serious head injuries and fractures.

"We helped carry him up to the ambulance on the stretcher," Mr McMurray said.

"He had a lot of bruises and cuts on his arm and one hip looked like it was pretty out of whack. …
