Airport a Flying Shame. and Denis Needs $400K to Fix It

It was a cold and lonely night for Denis Dack as he lay on a stretcher in the pouring rain, fighting for his life, far away from the arms of loved ones.

The Hervey Bay retiree says he owes his life to the members of the Royal Flying Doctors Service who helped him that night and wants to see better facilities built for the service at Hervey Bay Airport.

On the night he suffered a massive heart attack, an RFDS plane was diverted from its destination and sent to Hervey Bay in the rain at 2am.

"The poor buggers did their best to keep me dry out there," Mr Dack said

Although he is forever grateful for the help of the RFDS Mr Dack says the conditions patients are transported in are "completely unacceptable".

He has started up a group called the Fraser Coast Patient Transfer Facility Committee to raise money for a new building which the Fraser Coast Regional Council believes will cost about $400,000.

It's a sum Mr Dack thinks is "outrageous" but he's prepared to fundraise in the hope the State Government will recognise his efforts and come to the party. …
