THE rain may still be falling, but at least the Clarence River Jockey Club have a reason to smile as the clouds start to clear over the club's problematic all weather training track.

CRJC chairman Bob Pavitt yesterday returned from a trip to Sydney, where he met with NSW Country Racecourse Development Fund (CRDF) officials.

Pavitt said the meeting had gone smoothly, but due to legal reasons, could not officially announce any major decision.

"It was a positive response from the Country Racecourse Development Fund," Pavitt said.

"We should be able to make a positive announcement in the next fortnight."

Pavitt said the club had worked long and hard to find a solution to the problem, but repeatedly found only dead ends.

"We have been endeavouring for a long time to fix the problem," Pavitt said.

"It has reached a head and both the trainers and club need urgent action to happen."

Pavitt said the training track, which was completed last year, had failed to live up to expectations. …
