ADAM Lyth was delighted with the way he batted to send Yorkshire to an eight-wicket victory over the United Arab Emirates in the Emirates Airline Pro ARCH Trophy in Abu Dhabi yesterday.

The 21-year-old hit 112 before being caught with only 19 runs needed as Yorkshire chased down a target of 189 to beat their hosts. He did not waste any time after being sent in to open the innings, rattling along at more than seven an over for much of his innings.

"I played good cricket shots and ended up scoring really quickly, which wasn't a plan, it just happened," he said.

"I was disappointed not to get runs against Middlesex but it went really well today so I am pretty happy."

Lyth is yet to establish himself fully in the Yorkshire side but he hopes playing well in pre-season will guarantee him a spot in the team for the first few games of the summer. …
