Bike Riders Ready to Converge on the Hill

WITH Grafton's cycling community having said goodbye to McKittrick Park, South Grafton, all riders eyes will turn to Junction Hill as plans for a new criterium cycling track edge closer to construction.

With talks between the Grafton Cycle Club and the Clarence Valley Council progressing well, construction of the new community-based track could start as early as January.

Grafton Cycle Club secretary David Brown said the move from McKittrick Park was an obvious decision.

"McKittrick really needed change ... it needed repair," Brown said.

"It was becoming too dangerous."

Brown said the new criterium course would be completely different to the old, oval-based track at McKittrick Park.

"Criterium tracks are not round," Brown said.

"They can have a hill, a little chicane. They are more like a course."

The proposed 700-metre criterium track will be a technical course with sweeping bends, fast corners and a long straight. …
