Fishermen Look to 'Net' for Guidance; Webcam Tracks Yamba Bar

BOATIES have a new tool at their disposal to assist them in making a safe passage through the Yamba bar with the new webcam now on-line.

Live video footage of the Yamba bar is now available at the New South Wales Maritime website, which provides users a view of the bar conditions.

Di Jones, owner of Rockfish charters, said she would welcome any new tool that made it easier to predict surf conditions.

"We need to know how the bar is reacting and what the swell is like," she said.

"We want to know that our guests are going to have a comfortable ride."

Positioned on the communications tower at Iluka, the webcam provides a reasonable view of conditions and is sure to be of some assistance to users of the bar, when combined with other available condition and weather reports. Cheryl Kneller, of Big River Bait and Tackle at Maclean, hoped the new webcam would give boaties who travel from outside Yamba more insight into what conditions were like on the bar. …
