Community Centre Lives Up to Its Name

Article excerpt

OUR column is back up and running again after the writer had a few weeks off in Sydney relaxing at the Prince of Wales. Hopefully it will be a weekly column from now on.

The complex is still running well and very busy. In my absence my staff has done a great job in keeping the customers happy

Only a couple of weeks left of this term with bookings in these weeks very heavy.

The opera was a great success last Saturday with the show totally sold out weeks before the event. This is great for Grafton and indicates they will be back again.

Upcoming events

Grafton Hockey is having trials for most age groups for its indoor teams on September 21, from 1pm to 6pm. If you wish to make the teams, get along to selection trial on September 28.

The stadium's biggest event, the Jacaranda Basketball Carnival is also rushing around and will be held on October 11/12 and again this will fill up quickly. All local teams wishing to play should nominate now or you may not get in. As usual, acceptance of nominations is on a first in and paid basis, so nominate now. Last year a few local teams missed out and we don't want this to happen again.

This sport continues to be one of the most popular at the complex. The last term of the year usually attracts extra teams as there is no outdoor netball, and the complex is gearing up to have extra teams next term.

Nominations are now open for the last term and you can nominate for netball at the complex any day of the week. Cost will remain at $37 per team per game. If numbers warrant it, two grades will be played. Maximum numbers for netball are 18 teams on a Tuesday night.. We now have 12 teams playing and it is expected to reach the 18 team mark quickly. So nominate as soon as possible.

This is the fastest growing indoor sport in Australia and is pushing the more established sports, like basketball, netball and volleyball, for space at all complexes. …
